At about At 7:30 a.m. PST it was reported (not confirmed) that there has been a fiber cut between Portland, OR and Kenosha, WI. This outage is also impacting multiple cities around the Twin cities, MN area.
Apparently both 4G & 3G have been impacted in Saint Paul, MN including reported packet loss from central florida.
Milwaukee, WI fiber cut
Cable splicing has started on one side of the trench and it will be at least 4 more hours before they get to the other side of the trench.
Seattle, WA fiber cut

Update from Sprint Care 10/8/12 1:00PM PST:
“Earlier this morning, an accidental dual fibercut occurred on Sprint’s network causing a disruption in data and voice services for some Sprint customers in parts of Portland, Oregon; Seattle and Tacoma Washington; Minneapolis, Minnesota; and San Francisco and Sacramento, California. Sprint network technicians are working aggressively to resolve this issue and we hope to have service restored soon.
We are looking at 4PM CST for full restoration of service. It is affecting Minnesota, Washington State, and parts of California. This will cause capacity issues in these areas."
Then again rumor has it the problem would be resolved by 7:00 pm tomorrow, Tues 10/9.
Update 10/9/12 7:30AM PST:
According to Sprint they restored service to affected customers by 4.30 PM ET and that Alaska Airlines service was restored by 3 PM ET on Monday (10/8/12). The outages were caused by two separate fiber cuts. First
one between Chicago and Milwaukee that runs underground and alongside a railroad track and the second
one (an aerial cable, similar to an overhead powerline) between Tacoma, Washington and Portland, Oregon a few hours after the first one.
